About the Artist
Hello! This is Emily (A.K.A. Emi).
About the Artist #
Growing up, all Emily wanted to do was draw and color. She was constantly drawing in the margins of notes and creating characters in her free time. In High School, Emily took as many art classes as were available- even went to vocational school for advertising art and design. Towards the end of high school, she felt the pressure of imposter syndrome and stopped pursuing higher education in art because it wasn’t a “real job.” Instead, Emily learned a new language, took some business courses, and took off to Japan.
Living and teaching in Japan will always be one of the best experiences of her life. She fell in love with teaching young kids and decided to pursue education as a full time career. When she came back to to the states, Emily went to grad school and earned a masters degree in Early Childhood Education. She used her new degree to become a full-time kindergarten teacher, incorperating her artistic background to create lesson materials and connect with the students.
For eight years Emily taught kindergarten in public schools and childcare centers. After working through the pandemic and experiencing serious burnout, Emily decided to take a break from teaching and pursue her dream of creating and selling artwork. Now, she sells her artwork online and continues to learn and create whimsical and fantasy art.
